Chief Justice

John G Roberts Jr was born in New York in January 1955. He was married to Jane Sullivan in 1996, and they have two children. He received a degree from Harvard College in 1976 and another from Harvard Law School in 1979. From 1979-1980, he served as a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. He served intermittently, in many government assignments, during the period of 1981–1993. He practiced law in Washington DC from 1986–2003. After being nominated by George W. Bush, John Roberts took his seat as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court in September of 2005.

Associate Justices

Samuel Alito was born in New Jersey in April of 1950. He received his degrees at Princeton University in 1972 and Yale Law School in 1975. He served in the government from 1977–1990. Judge Alito served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and was nominated to the Supreme Court by George W. Bush. He assumed his current post in January 2006.

Stephen Breyer was born in San Francisco in August 1938. He married Joanna Hare in September 1967. They have three children. Breyer attended Stanford University, Oxford University and Harvard Law School to name a few. He has taught law at Harvard University and Kennedy School of Government. He served intermittently in the Government from 1965-1980. Breyer was appointed to his current position by Bill Clinton in July 1994.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born in New York in March of 1933. She married Martin Ginsburg in 1954. They have two children. She attended Harvard Law School and Columbia Law School. She was a law clerk in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York from 1959- 1961. She has many years of experience teaching law and has written several books on the subject. She was appointed to the United States Supreme Court by Bill Clinton in August of 1993.

Elena Kagan was born in New York in April of 1960. She attended Princeton University, Oxford University and Harvard Law School. She served intermittently in the Government during the period of 1986–2009. She became an assistant professor at the University of Chicago Law School in 1991. She was appointed to the United States Supreme Court by President Obama in August of 2010.

Anthony M Kennedy was born in Sacramento in July of 1936. He married Mary Davis in June 1963. They have three children. He was educated at Stanford University, London School of Economics and Harvard Law School. He practiced law in California through 1975. He was nominated to the United States Supreme Court by President Reagan and assumed his place there in February 1988.

Antonin Scalia was born in New Jersey in March of 1936. He married Maureen McCarthy in September of 1960. Together they have nine children. Scalia attended Georgetown University and the University of Fribourg Switzerland. He was the editor of the Harvard Law Review from 1960-1961. He served in the Government from 1971-1977. From 1977-1982 he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He was nominated to the United States Supreme Court by President Reagan and assumed his place there in September 1986.

Sonia Sotomayor was born in New York in June of 1954. She earned a degree from Princeton University in 1976 and another from Yale Law School in 1979. She was nominated to the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York by George H.W. Bush in 1991. She served in that role from 1992-1998. She was nominated to the United States Supreme Court by President Obama and assumed her place there in August of 2009.

Clarence Thomas was born in the Pin Point community near Savannah Georgia in June of 1948. He married Virginia Lamp in May of 1987. They have one child together. Thomas earned a degree at Holy Cross College in 1968. He then earned his JD at Yale Law School in 1974. He worked intermittently in the Government from 1974-1990. He was nominated to the United States Supreme Court by President George H.W. Bush and took his seat there in October 1991.
